Antenatal/Post Natal Clinics

Do not hesitate to consult even preconceptually, for example regarding the need for taking folic acid etc.

We share the antenatal care with the district midwife, health visitor and the hospital. You can choose your maternity hospital (Stirling Royal Infirmary, Queen Mothers Maternity Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital in Glasgow) and the doctor/midwife will be able to advise you accordingly.

Our antenatal clinics are run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. The district midwife and health visitor also run a Relaxation and Parentcraft class after the clinics. Both doctors and midwifes are happy to see maternity patients out with these clinics if it is more convenient for you.

All mothers and babies are seen at home by a doctor and midwife just after the birth. A further post natal examination for both mother and baby takes place approximately eight weeks later by appointment.

Immunisation and Child Development Clinics

Immunisation has always been controversial. However our team has a policy that all young children should be fully immunised in line with current evidence. The doctor and health visitor are happy to discuss this fully and give individual advice.

The health visitor, supported by the doctors, runs a child development clinic which assesses children at important developmental milestones. These are at 6 - 8 weeks, 8 - 9 months, 22 - 24 months, 39 - 42 months and four and a half years approximately.

Family Planning

A very important part of primary care. We provide a comprehensive family planning service, including the fitting of coils. Emergency contraception - which can be effective up to 72 hours after unprotected intercourse - is also available. Condoms and pregnancy tests are available without charge. We are also happy to discuss aspects of screening for sexually transmitted infections. Every consultation will be treated in absolute confidentiality

Travel Clinic

An increasingly important part of our workload, given the current growth of travel for both pleasure and business. Our practice nurse, Christine Montgomery, offers advice on all aspects of Travel Medicine including Immunisation and runs the travel clinic, backed up by up to date online advice. The Health Centre is a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. Please allow adequate time in order for the vaccine(s)/medication to be effective. Please note that there may be a charge for certain vaccines. As a returning traveller with health problems you may need specialist advice and we can liaise with the Brownlee Unit of Infectious Disease and Tropical Medicine at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow.

Well Woman and Well Man Clinics

Our Well Woman and Well Man Clinics cover a number of screening procedures including cervical smear, which can be carried out by the practice nurse and community nursing staff.
